Yesterday I went down to my good ol' radiation doc's office for the final simulation before they started radiating me. Having stayed true to form and read everything they gave me before the first simulation, I knew that they would do the last simulation and before I left we would schedule my future treatments. The packet said that it would be the following week, so that's what I went to the doctor expecting yesterday. After having being layed out on a very hard piece of plastic they call a table, with my right arm gripping a bar above my head for about an hour while this guy drew on me with sharpe's and lined up some lasers with the drawings on my chest, I sat down, smiled for a head shot and was asked when I wanted to start. I replied "whenever," because what does it matter what day of the week I start next week, either way I'll be working. He says, "Can you start tomorrow?" Well I'd already said whenever and other than just not wanting to, of course I could start "tomorrow." So I just said yes.
I went in today at 1:30 pm. I arrived a little early and they pounced immediately. I put on the little gown, open to the front, and layed down on a different hard plastic table that pretty much looked like the first one. They put me in the same position as yesterday and went off to take more x-rays to make sure everything was lining up right. It wasn't, so they started repositioning me and taking more pictures. All in all, I was on that little table for more than an hour, with my right arm above my head about to fall off, my behind on hard plastic getting numb and my neck cricked to the left getting sore. For an hour of uncomfortable pain and numbness, the actual radiation treatment lasted all of 5 mins, if not less!!! I was oh so sore and aggravated when I left. At least with chemo you get a nice comfy chair and warm blankets! Not here, just a thin gown, open to the front.
I was told to get 100 percent aloe vera gel to apply three times a day. I have no problem following directions, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to follow them when nobody is selling 100 percent aloe vera gel at the moment because it is typically used for sunburns and since it's winter, I kinda missed it buy half a year. It took me forever to find some online, finally found some on amazon and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that it's actually the right stuff. I so hope that this treatment flies by! I'm over it already! I'll write more later, it's been an aggravating day and I'm tired!
